A little dare from Sharon Haver

21 May

Sharon Haver provided some great advice for those interested in taking on the knee high socks and sandals trend advocated by Chloe. Honestly, I’m not such a fan of sheer socks and sandals myself, as I find it makes me look like a nurse in medical socks. But if you can pull it off, more power to you.

Something fashion, something blue

7 May

I was very taken by this dress featured in Elle UK which is worn by the lovely Lilly Collins, and suddenly I was hit by the blues, or a massive urge to find every variation of blue sock and stocking imaginable. And then I remembered some of the breathtaking blues highlighted in Fall 2012 collections. And apparently, I wasn’t the only one who noticed.

Yuma Koshino: Spring/Summer 2012

19 Dec

Metallic sandals and colored socks? Somehow Yuma Koshino makes it work by adding pops of color to neutrals and mellow prints. I feel like she’s raided my grandmother’s closet and suddenly made it cool again.

I especially love these beige open-toe knee highs. Where can I get them? Perhaps they were just one of the designer’s flights of fancy, but if I can’t find them I’ll definitely be making them.

Can I get some mustard with that?

17 Oct

For the longest time, I avoided the color yellow. I subscribed to the belief that it would wash out my pale skin and emphasize my lack of tan.

Then I discovered a pair of mustard shoes which opened the door to an exciting dijon-tinted world and there’s no going back. I find it instantly improves one’s mood, makes any outfit more interesting and is definitely one of my favorite colors for socks…among other things.

Live your life in these socks: Minga Berlin

29 Sep

I enjoy simple pleasures.

I jump on the bed, I secretly dance in elevators, I wiggle my toes. I embrace socks that allow me to do all of these things and smile when I know they’re made by a company that cares about quality and the impact their business has on the world around them. For this reason, I’m drawn to Minga Berlin socks.

With a color palette reminiscent of a candy shop, and names like picnic anarchy and layer cake, these adorable creations are socks that I can live my life in – because not only are they beautiful, they’re environmentally friendly from their organic cotton beginnings to the recyclable packaging they’re shipped in. I haven’t been able to stop oggling them since I stumbled onto their website.

Full disclosure: This isn’t me, but I wish it was!

I’ve ordered the over-the-knee version of the “two face” design in cherry lips, as shown below. The socks are available for purchase online at www.mingaberlin.com, or at various retailers throughout Italy, Greece, Austria and Germany (check their blog for store details).

I’ll keep an eye out for them and be sure to post pictures when they finally arrive! So very excited to try these on!

Rihanna: a sock lover to the core

28 Sep

Despite her little tiff with an Irish farmer this week on the set of her new video shoot, pop star Rihanna has a unique and wonderful sense of fashion and is an avid lover of socks. Her clothing may sometimes be revealing, but her style is always fresh and playful!

Love this shot below from her video “Only Girl in the World.”

Honor Showcases Sheer Socks for Spring/Summer 2012 Collection

11 Sep

Medical school dropout and blossoming designer Giovanna Randall takes Fall’s sheer trend a step further with sheer socks and feminine silhouettes for Spring/Summer 2012. Her label, Honor, includes delicate 1960’s inspired pieces with a vintage appeal that’s both dangerously ladylike and cupcake sweet. The lacy look is an enticing way to keep things light and airy without ditching our beloved knee-highs or going for a shorter style. Her designs really caught my eye and I’m already looking forward to warm weather again!
