Something fashion, something blue

7 May

I was very taken by this dress featured in Elle UK which is worn by the lovely Lilly Collins, and suddenly I was hit by the blues, or a massive urge to find every variation of blue sock and stocking imaginable. And then I remembered some of the breathtaking blues highlighted in Fall 2012 collections. And apparently, I wasn’t the only one who noticed.

Blue-inspired collage from Al over at Red Dot (Love her!).

Blue feathered stockings from Cacharel Fall RTW 2012

Runway-inspired, mis-matched argyle socks from Argoz.

Welcome the Wet Look

19 Sep

The English autumn weather has struck with a vengeance and I’ve seen nothing but rain for days. I figure if I’m doomed to look doused, then I might as well make it work from a style perspective. Thus, my investigations into the “wet look” have uncovered these juicy finds.

Elisha Casa Grande in James Lillis leggings.

Black leather and faux leather leggings on Horrorette and Style for the Soul in via Chictopia.

Leggings in Blueberry and Gun Metal from BlackMilk Clothing (also by James Lillis).

Shiny Stirrup Tights from American Apparel.

American Apparel Disco Short in Midnight Navy and Hussein Chalayan vinyl tights.

Bebaroque Crystal tights that look like tiny, perfect droplets of water.

And if you’ve ever wondered if PVC stockings could be classy, check out Karlie Kloss in the Fall 2011 Oscar de la Renta campaign. I’ve been able to find every color featured here through Milanoo online.

Back to School Girl Sock Chic

28 Aug

With back to school season just around the corner, it’s worth considering how sock fashion contributes to a favorite fall look – school girl chic.

D&G Loves Socks for Fall

14 Aug

I spotted the Fall 2011 ads for Dolce & Gabbana in the September issue of British Elle on the train this week. I admit I got sucked in by the gorgeous photos of Kirsten Dunst on the cover, but that’s another post for another day. The D&G autumn campaign is rocking with sheer black socks, glamorous frocks and bright, patterned heels. The look has me rethinking how I prioritize my sock drawer and loving how the designers have managed to make the traditionally manly black sock so feminine and alluring.

Polka dot tights: the trend that’s spot on!

4 Aug

Polka dots were all over the runway in Fall/Winter 2011 collections. Stella McCartney went sheer with peek-a-boo circles, while David Koma took on bold graphic prints.

However, I spotted these adorable polka dot tights on the runway at Marc Jacobs.

I love how this look can be dressed up and sexy, or relaxed and playful.

These are available just about anywhere, but I did happen on some especially colorful options at We Love Colors.  See additional examples of how you can wear the trend at Chictopia.

Reviving the Sheer Tights Trend

2 Aug

Personally, I’ve always been a fan of sheer tights. They’re classy, give a bit of color to the legs, smooth things out and just feel “dressed up.” Also, in my family, with their Southern U.S. roots, bare legs were somewhat frowned upon for ladies unless you were wearing open toe shoes.

I’m not sure how they became known as an “80’s trend,” as sheer stockings have been around since girls started hiking up their hemlines in the 1920’s, but they were roundly rejected in favor of self-tanner and bare legs in the 90’s.

Current “it” fashion icon Kate Middleton has stirred up the critics recently by being photographed in sheer hose at numerous high-profile events. Many have suggested that royal protocol dictates that the Duchess of Cambridge wear sheer stockings a formal events, but really, who cares? I don’t share the view expressed by Tara Abraham in her Daily Mail article that the Duchess’ use of sheer hosiery “results in a somewhat ageing look, at odds with her otherwise youthful style.”

In fact, I think she looks every bit the lady – polished and regal – and considering the current obsession with Mad Men and vintage fashion, completely on trend. However, if nude stockings aren’t your cup of tea, American Apparel offers some more colorful options to accent your summer wardrobe for only $15.

Obsession with warmth: Day #2

9 Nov

Since I am still without heat in my apartment and the nights are falling below 50 degrees, I am somewhat obsessed with staying warm at the moment. Thus, I think we should explore leg warmers, or more specifically, Alexander Wang’s thigh high leg warmers! These are just what I would want to wear out on a Saturday night – warm and very sexy.

Coincidentally, I noticed a post on MyFashionCents.com also pondering the trend today and I would be interested in seeing how these look on a girl with curves. You can find Wang’s warmers at Saks, but I found a totally adorable, less expensive version at ArtisanSocks.com.

Socks + Peep toe heels = warmth!

8 Nov

Fall is definitely my favorite time of year! As the weather gets colder, I become less and less inclined to wear my adorable peep toe heels.

Never fear – there are fashionable options for those of us who don’t want to miss out thanks to the current socks and heels trend that’s been going on since Spring. Personally, I prefer knee highs or over the knee for a polished school girl sort of look, but have seen some great examples of shorter socks with the latest open toe boots that are out for this season.

This last pic I borred from the blog Capitol Hill Style…which also includes some pretty sound advice on the trend.
